Do you know how many kilograms of food you throw away each year? In the EU, that’s an average of 127 kilograms per capita. The problem is compounded by rising food prices due to inflation and the fact that many people cannot afford to eat good quality food every day. Throwing away so much food is an economic and, above all, an environmental problem because it causes greenhouse gas emissions.
The fact is that many people have no idea how big a problem such waste is.
If we in the European Union want to combat this kind of problem and others relating to the environment together, people’s attitudes and awareness should change.
However, if we want to achieve this, we must first start with ourselves, because if we change our own mindset, we can have a positive impact on our surroundings and spread awareness of this issue.
I therefore consider it most important that the subject of the environment and waste sorting be introduced as part of education in schools. Education on these topics is, in my opinion, essential for people to understand how important they are, especially now when humanity is facing climate change and we want the next generation to continue to live in a healthy environment.
